As a class we will explore the Maya culture by meeting and getting to know people, and then translate what we see and learn into colorful watercolor paintings that honor their centuries old traditions. Sue is a patient instructor and will take you through the steps needed to come away with an accomplished portrait painting. Her skill lies in helping non-portrait painters, become portrait painters.

So don't be intimidated !! You'll begin with quick sketches, and then during daily class demonstrations, learn to add more detail. Sue will cover proportion, tips on how to capture your subject's face, color values and choosing and mixing watercolors to achieve the colors you need for stunning work.

Painters Works Capture Indigenous Culture Of Guatemala

McAllen, TX - A feature article about Sue Sill and her paintings appeared on the front page of Section D - Valley Life of the Monitor, McAllen, Texas. The article reports on how a trip to Guatemala in 2009 inspired Sue to shift from botanical illustrations to painting the indigenous people of Guatemala. It also mentions that she will be painting in Patzcuaro, Michoacan, Mexico for a planned book on the area.

Sill Competing In International Photography Competition

McAllen, TX - Photography is power. In a world of images, every person with a camera has the potential to define the world around us. Great photographers capture moments that speak beyond the frame. Exposure is an international open call for inspired photography. This opportunity is open to photographers of all backgrounds who are able to speak exquisitely in the language of lenses and aperture.

Artists Wanted was created three years ago by two Brooklyn based artists, Jason Goodman and William Etundi Jr. Their first hand experience in the art world was the inspiration for creating this bold new platform for finding burgeoning talent and exposing it to the world.

Watercolor Artist Sue Sill Wins Best In Show

McAllen, TX - McAllen artist, Sue Sill, won Best in Show at the 2010 All Members Show held February 11, 2010 at the Corpus Christi Art Center in Corpus Chisti, Texas. The winning piece was Mayan Princess in Green, a painting inspired by the artist's recent trip to Guatemala. Sill's other entry, Orgullo Feminino, another painting inspired by Guatemala won an honorable mention. The show had 191 entries of which 115 were admitted into the exhibition.
